On April 1st, hundreds of riders will participate in the Prickly Pedal Mountain Bike Race along the Maricopa Trail. This year, they will ride 40+ miles from Cave Creek to Lake Pleasant.
The race benefits the Maricopa Trail and Park Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to funding maintenance of the trail and drawing more people to it. Last year’s inaugural race featured nearly 300 riders.
“This is a race that exists in large part because of my predecessor on the Board,” said Supervisor Bill Gates, District 3. “Andy Kunasek had a vision of this event getting bigger every year and becoming a premier race event in the Valley. I’m excited to be involved, and I have no doubt this year’s race will be a huge success.”
Maricopa Trail
The Maricopa Trail is a one-of-a-kind trail that connects Maricopa County’s 10 regional parks by forming a ring around the Valley of the Sun. Currently, the trail is more than 275 miles long. It will be 310 miles long when it is complete.
