There are 2 Emergency Planning Zones (EPZ) surrounding Palo Verde Generating Station (PVGS) and they are defined as the Plume Exposure Pathway EPZ and the Ingestion Exposure Pathway EPZ.
Plume Exposure Pathway EPZ
A radius of 10-miles surrounding PVGS, near the community of Wintersburg, where protective actions (shelter-in-place and/or evacuation) could be required to protect the public from the effects of exposure to radiation.
Ingestion Exposure Pathway EPZ
A radius of 50-miles surrounding PVGS where food or potable water could become contaminated as a result of a release of radioactive materials into the atmosphere. Contamination control measures would be implemented to protect the public from ingesting any contaminated food or water. State and County governments are prepared to quickly notify and advise on what actions to take in the event of a radiological emergency.
