Floodplain Regulations for Maricopa County Update
Regulations need to be periodically updated due to state statute changes, federal requirements, stakeholder requests, or to address new issues. It is also a time for staff to see if there are other areas that need revising. Recently, the Floodplain Regulations for Maricopa County (view the current regulations) have been updated to reflect changes in the following four areas:
- Proposed text amendments that combine the updates needed to reflect state statute, staff clean-up items, and the required changes as a result of a Federal Audit.
- Proposed text amendments generated as a result of the Stakeholder Committee and sub-taskforce work.
- Modifications to the Fee Schedule and Fee Schedule Notes.
- Proposed changes for the Licensing Timeframes.
All of the proposed text amendments are administrative or clarifications. No additional regulatory burden is occurring as a result of these proposed text amendments and changes.
The District does floodplain management for 14 of the cities/towns in Maricopa County as well as for unincorporated county. A number of other Districts and cities may possibly use the Floodplain Regulations as their adopted regulations. Additionally, the Board of Directors adopted Resolutions to have the County participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and Community Rating System (CRS) Program. All of these variables create multiple layers of authority and numerous partners to coordinate with.
